The New York Jets will be without safety Minkah Fitzpatrick for their home opener against the Green Bay Packers on 2026-09-20.[^3]

Head coach Aaron Glenn announced on 2026-09-18 that Fitzpatrick is out with a groin injury he picked up in the season opener at Tennessee.[^3]

That opens a spot in the Jets secondary. Rookie cornerback D'Angelo Ponds may make his NFL debut in the same game, per an Athlon Sports report on 2026-09-18.[^1]

The read here: a thinned-out Jets secondary carries the pressure against the Packers, and that could be exactly the opening Ponds needs.
