The Tampa Bay Rays have clinched the American League East title, holding a four-game cushion over the New York Yankees.[^1]

In the National League, the Chicago Cubs moved to 87-69 and cut their magic number to one for a wild-card spot. The Cubs could clinch if the Arizona Diamondbacks lost to the Yankees on September 20.[^2]

The San Diego Padres also have a magic number of two. That number could drop to one based on the Arizona-New York result, with Tuesday the earliest the Padres can clinch.[^8]
